Minutes of the Executive Board November 7, 1961 1. Letters have been written to Robert Osborne, Alfred Kazin, inviting them to speak here. It was also suggested that we write to Steinberg and Marya Mannes, and to Jules Pfdiffer. 2. There will be an exchange with two students going to, and coming from,Swarthmore, in February. Details are to be arranged with Miss Howe, and a list will be posted. 3. It is hoped that improvement can be made on the College Inn Service. There is a student committee for such work. 4. Sue Johnson and Barbara Paul will work on plans for a co-ed social room, open til 2:00, with food available, possibly to be situated in the new dorm. The objections to such a room are that this new room might be noisy and infringe on the privacy of the dorm. The inadequacies of Goodhart, ie: it is cold, drafty, unattractive, and closes early, were pointed out. 5. Activities Board will draw up a petition to be presented to the faculty, asking that there be a faculty show. 6. Marion oen announced a conference at the UN to which Bryn Mawr has been invited, which will be addressed by Nehru. The date is Sat., Novem- ber 11, 1961. 7. There was discussion of the meeting of the previous Monday, Nov.6, with Miss McBride and Miss Howe. The Activities Board had felt a desire for expansion of student waitressing, and urged that the issue not be dropped. The dis- cussion mainly was concerned with possible action by the Board. Some felt that we have done all that we can with the information, and should now drop the issue in order that we should avoid making it a civil rights issue or a question of patronizing. Most members felt that we should make evident our continued interest in the subject, and make it quite clear that the Administration should continue its studies of operational costs, in preparation for an enlarged program of student work. It must
